Private Label Red Light Therapy: MOQ, Timeline and What Drives Cost

Latest company blog about Private Label Red Light Therapy: MOQ, Timeline and What Drives Cost

Private label is the most common route for beauty, wellness and pet brands entering the red light therapy category: you work with an established manufacturer, apply your brand, and go to market without funding a new device from scratch.

This guide explains what the process actually involves — the three levels of customization, realistic MOQ and lead-time expectations, and the factors that drive unit cost.

The three levels of customization

Most OEM/ODM suppliers, including HSY, structure projects in three levels:

  • Private label: an existing device with your logo (silk-screen or laser), custom manual and retail box. Fastest path to market, lowest investment.
  • OEM: the same base platform with product-level changes — custom color, wavelength mix, panel size or power configuration.
  • Full custom (ODM): a new mold and industrial design developed for your brand. Tooling typically takes 30–60 days.

See how these are applied in real projects on our OEM & ODM case studies page.

MOQ: what to expect at each stage

MOQ is usually tiered rather than fixed. A typical ladder:

  • Sample program: 1–2 units — evaluate build quality, output and packaging before committing.
  • Market trial: 10–50 units — test a market or channel with real inventory.
  • Bulk wholesale: 100+ units — production pricing and full branding.

Why not lower? Unit economics at low volume are dominated by setup: production run preparation, component minimums and packaging print runs. Volume spreads those costs across more units.

Timeline from inquiry to shipment

Realistic timelines for a private label project:

  • In-stock orders: ship in 3–7 days
  • OEM bulk production: 20–30 days after sample sign-off, with weekly production photos during the run
  • Full custom with new tooling: tooling 30–60 days, plus production time
  • Market-specific certifications: typically 4–8 weeks where required (PSE, SAA, ANATEL and similar)
  • Shipping: sea 25–35 days / air 5–7 days; DDP terms available for the US, EU, UK, AU and CA

The single biggest schedule risk is starting certification after production. If your market requires additional certificates, start that process in parallel with the sample stage.

What drives unit cost

Unit price in a private label quote is built from these factors — not just quantity:

  • Tooling and molds (full custom only), amortized across the order volume
  • Wavelength count and LED power — additional channels mean additional driver electronics
  • Battery and power design — cordless products cost more than corded equivalents
  • Materials — textile, silicone and aluminum components vary widely in cost
  • Packaging — retail-ready boxes, inserts, manuals and localized documentation
  • Certifications — the documents your target market requires
  • Order volume — the same product at 100 units and 1,000 units are different quotes

Documentation and compliance

HSY products carry FDA Class II (510(k) listed), CE, FCC and RoHS documentation, with ETL on selected panels. Certifications for additional markets can be arranged as part of the project. Test data — irradiance, EMF and flicker measurements — is available on request. Details are on the quality control page.

How to start a private label project

Have three things ready: your target market, your expected volume, and the product format you are interested in — for example face masks or panels. With those, a supplier can quote pricing, lead time and a sample plan in one round.

Tell us your target market, volume and product format, and we will come back with pricing, lead time and a sample plan. Contact HSY or email annie-chow@hsy-lighting.com.
