Red Light Therapy (RLT)—known in clinical literature as Photobiomodulation (PBM)—is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of visible red and near-infrared light to stimulate natural healing processes within the body’s cells.
Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light, which damages skin tissue and DNA, red and near-infrared wavelengths are completely safe and gentle. The two most clinically studied wavelengths—660nm red light and 850nm near-infrared (NIR) light—penetrate through the skin and into underlying tissue, where they trigger a cascade of cellular responses without any heat, pain, or downtime.
Originally developed by NASA in the 1990s to grow plants in space, the technology was quickly adopted by medical researchers who discovered its remarkable healing properties. Today, photobiomodulation is used across professional settings worldwide—from physical therapy clinics and medspas to professional sports recovery centers and high-end home wellness brands.
